Stewart Hoosan

Mabunji Aboriginal Resource Assoc Inc
Stewart was born in 1951 at Doomagee Station in Queensland. He is a Garrwa man on his mother Thelma Dixon's side and Gangalida from his father Alec Hoosan. His name is Wurrlbiyanguna and his skin is Burralangi. Thelma described his grandfather Joe Hoosan as a 'proper middle eastern man', an Afghan cameleer from the central desert who married Topsy, a Gangalida woman from Bourketown. Their son Alec had three children, Stewart, his sister and Reggie. Stewart's grandfather Yarri Yarri raised him up at Calvert Hill Station, teaching about his country, painting the cave walls and sparked the drive to think painting about his country and his connection to the land.
