Patsy Marfura (1942-2014)

Patsy Marfura (1942-2014) was a Ngan’giwumerri artist born the Daly River Mission, Northern Territory in 1942. In her late thirties, Marfura moved with her husband and their six children to the recently established Peppimenarti in the Daly River region, south-west of Darwin. There her grandmother and other elders taught her to weave dilly bags and mats. Her practice is recognised for a refined use of colour, dot and line, centered upon the durrmu (body painting dot) and fi (sand palm twine), of the Peppimenarti region.

Patsy was a senior artist at Durrmu Arts. Her paintings have been included in awards such as Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Award (2003) and the Xstrata Emerging Artist Award (2008)
